
Sonya Yoncheva has been heralded worldwide for her performances at the world’s most renowned opera houses, concert halls and festivals.
After completing her vocal studies in her hometown of Plovdiv and in Geneva, Sonya began her career as a graduate of William Christie’s Le Jardin des Voix, specializing in Baroque roles that remain a significant part of her repertoire.
Career highlights include numerous appearances at the Metropolitan Opera, such as a recital, new productions of Tosca, Fedora, Don Carlos, and Otello; the title roles of Norma, Iolanta, Luisa Miller and La traviata. At La Scala, she performed in new stagings of Fedora and Il pirata, a season-opening gala, as Maddalena (Andrea Chénier) and Mimì (La bohème). She also made her acclaimed role debut as Norma at the Royal Opera House, starred in Iolanta, Don Carlos, and La bohème at Paris Opera and in L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Salzburg Festival, all in new productions. At Wiener Staatsoper, she recently sang the title roles of Madama Butterfly, Tosca, and Iolanta.
Sonya regularly appears in concert and recital all around the globe, from Athens to Zurich, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Dresden, Hamburg, Madrid, Mexico City, Milan, Monte-Carlo, Montevideo, Moscow, Munich, New York, Paris, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Salzburg, Tokyo, and Vienna.
Sonya Yoncheva is also a producer. After four solo albums with Sony Classical, she launched her album The Courtesan with her company SY11, followed by GEORGE and her book Fifteen Mirrors. In Sofia, she curates a concert series.
She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and a brand ambassador for Rolex.
