The tenure of Permanent Conductor was held by Emanoil Elenescu, Mendi Rodan, Paul Popescu, Horia Andreescu, while George Enescu, Ion Baciu, Erich Bergel, Sergiu Comissiona, Constantin Bugeanu, Cristian Mandeal, Ovidiu Bălan, Gheorghe Costin, Ilarion Ionescu-Galați, Emil Simon, Ion Marin have often guest conducted.

It has collaborated with the most celebrated romanian soloists – Cristina Anghelescu, Dana Borșan, Marin Cazacu, Gabriel Croitoru, Valentin Gheorghiu, Daniel Goii, Dan Grigore, Pompeiu H`r`]teanu, Nicolae Herlea, Florin Ionescu-Galați, Eugenia Moldoveanu, Alexandru Moro]anu, David Ohanesian, Gheorghe Roșu, Maria Sl`tinaru-Nistor, Ludovic Spiess, Georgeta Stoleriu, Alexandru Tomescu, Ion Voicu, Ionel Voineag, to name just a few, to whom we may add Radu Aldulescu, Vladimir Orlov, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici, Mihaela Ursuleasa, Eugen Sârbu, Viorica Cortez, Ileana Cotruba], Ruxandra Donose, Angela Gheorghiu, Eduard Tumagian and others.

Many international maestros have performed on the RNO podium, among whom Iogor Markevich, Joseph Willem Mengelberg, Kurt Masur, Aaron Copland, Vaclav Neumann, Herman Scherchen, Leopold Stokovsky, Carlo Zecchi, Roberto Benzi, Lorin Maazel, Michel Plasson, Ghenadi Rozdestvensky, Jin Wang.

The orchestra has performed with highly acclaimed soloists such as Aldo Ciccolini, Monique de la Bruchollerie, Emil Gilels, Jean Jacques Kantorow, Gerhard Oppitz, Nikita Magaloff, Sviatoslav Richter, Leonid Kagan, Radu Lupu, Nelson Goerner, Elisabeta Leonskaya, Francois Thiollier, Yehudi Menuhin, Gidon Kremer, David Oistrach, Isaac Stern, Monserrat Caballe, Placido Domingo, Eliane Coelho, Luciano Pavarotti and many others.

The numerous Romanian works it has performed (some of them world premieres), the radio recordings and the television productions, the phonograph recordings (recognised with prestigiuos awards, including the Prize of the Academy Charles Cros, Puerta del Sol – Uruguay, Koussevitzky – the USA) and the weekly concert broadcast on the national stations and often on EUR, as well as the tours made in Europe, Japan, Turkey ( most recent ones including Rome, Brussels, the Hague, Paris, Vienna, Moyia-Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi) have all built up the ensemble’s international reputation.
