In nearly seventy years of existence, it has had only five artistic directors: Victor Desarzens (1942-1973), Armin Jordan (1973-1985), Lawrence Foster (1985-1990), Jesús López Cobos (1990-2000) and Christian Zacharias (since 2000).

Conscious of its public service mission and renewal of his audience, the OCL offers several concerts each season „Discoveries” for families and schools.
