Highly regarded as the Romanian operatic tenor with the most complex repertoire covering top operatic roles and an impressive symphonic and concert repertoire (more than 120 titles!), Marius Vlad is one of the most appreciated Romanian tenors, an exquisite singer, a true actor delivering with each role an unforgettable interpretation.

Marius Vlad made his debut age 21 with Beethoven’s IX. Symphony at Târgu-Mureş Philharmonic (Romania), and in the operatic repertoire with Lenski (Eugene Onegin by P. I. Tchaikovsky) at the Hungarian Opera House from Cluj. His first roles on the stage of the Romanian Opera House from Cluj were Rodolfo (La Bohème by G. Puccini) and Alfredo (La Traviata by G. Verdi). He made his debut at the Bucharest National Opera House with Tamino (Die Zauberflöte by W. A Mozart) in 1996.

Being a very good musician and speaking German, French, English and Italian, he has been invited to perform on all the opera and philharmonic stages in the country and has been performing for a long time abroad where his refined vocal quality and thorough professionalism didn’t go unnoticed. He has performed in hundreds of concerts and performances in the U.K., France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Russia, Serbia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey and Japan.

Marius Vlad Budoiu approached a wide repertoire, from Händel (The Messiah, Judas Maccabeus, Israel in Ägypten) and Mozart – with Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Idomeneo (Idomeneo) –  to works of the 20th century and composers like Benjamin Britten (War Requiem, Serenade, Les Illuminations) and Arthur Honegger (Le Roi David). His lyrical tenor repertoire successfully integrated a few years roles like Rodolfo (La Bohème), Alfredo (La Traviata), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Barinkay (Der Zigeunerbaron), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Faust (Faust). In time his voice gradually developed towards the spinto repertoire with roles like Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Don José (Carmen), Radames (Aida), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Canio (Pagliacci), Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana), Don Carlo (Don Carlo) and Manrico (Il Trovatore).

In the past years he approached the challenging repertoire for the dramatic tenor, being the single Romanian tenor today who has in his repertoire such roles as Otello (Otello), Calaf (Turandot), Samson (Samson et Dalila), Don Alvaro (La Forza del Destino), Lohengrin (Lohengrin), Tannhäuser (Tannhäuser) and Tristan (Tristan und Isolde). 2013 finds tenor Marius Vlad Budoiu in full professional swing, performing under the baton of Maestro Daniel Barenboim at the Berlin State Opera House, at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and at the Proms Festival at Royal Albert Hall in London.
